17 Jan 2014:    Judges are still working on their first-round cuts and are almost half-way through the entries that were emailed in December. We believe we have now received all of the USPS entries, but we'll check the PO Box again today for any stragglers. Entires bearing a postmark no later than 31 Dec 2013 will be entered into the contest. As we log the contest entries, we're updating our map to indicate which states have participants.

Due to the death of our family's matriarch this January, we are taking longer to complete our first round of judging this year than we have in years past. We greatly appreciate the notes of condolence and sympathy that we've received from the folks we've met through this contest, and we are working hard to get back on schedule.

Help us fund next year's contest. So far, we've raised $50 toward our goal of $350 to send to our 2014 contest winners. Use the PayPal "Donate" link below, or send a check in the mail.

1 Jan 2014:    Entry into the 2013 contest is closed, and as we wait for the last of the USPS entries to arrive, our judges are making their first round selections. During first round eliminations, judges will select less than 25% of 2013 entries to compete in round 2 of judging. We will post a list of stories that have made the first cut in the next 2 weeks.
